Coffee Shops!

Published by

Ritual Coffee – New modern decor; bright open. Very popular. Coffee? On Valencia

Cafe Petra – Guerrero between 16th and 17th. Quiet. Good place to read or work. Benches and chairs, but no easy chairs. Coffee is good.

Maxfields – 17th and Dolores. Nice place to sit out front under trees. Big lounge area inside too. They recently (1Q06) reorganized the interior to make it a bit more comfortable. Food is not so good. Okay if you’re hungry.

Morning Due – 17th and Church. Busy corner. Clever name. Nice neighborhood shop.

Jumpin Java on Noe north of Market between 14th and 15th. Nice, small garden out front on street with big trees. Good coffee. It can be hard to find a place to sit inside.

Tartines – Pastries are great. Not really a coffee shop, but they do all the espresso based drinks at a coffee bar in the back corner. Usually crowded except mid to late afternoon; about 2:30 to 4-4:30

Spike’s – 19th just west of Castro. Beans okay, but not as good as Peets. Small place without a lot of sitting room, but space outside for nice weather. Eva has been know to hang out here.

Peets – Market between Noe and Sanchez. Good beans, and good coffee. Usually crowded.

Tazza di Amore (formerly Onda(?)) on 16th just east of Sanchez. Food is mediocre. Based on a very small sample, coffee drinks are satisfactory. Nice decor and seating.Come and gone. Has been redone as a European shop but not a good location.

Java Supreme On Guerrero just south of 19th. A nice neighborhood shop. Has food with a middle eastern ment. Good place. The deli next door also has a good selection of middle eastern oriented food. Good home made humus.
