Much delayed post. Read this about a month ago.

A NYT best seller for a good reason. A well told story set in Afghanistan. Like China Boy, it is mainly the story of a young boy and his coming of age, but this time told from the point of view of the boy when grown up. The description of life in Afghanistan before the upheavals of the last 20 years is a fascinating description of an almost feudal society with the Pashtuns sitting on top rung. The boys story is also well written and pulls the reader along. I read this one quickly since I wanted to see how it was resolved. And it was resolved well with a lot of twists and turns as the end approaches. Almost too fast and I did feel too many aspects/hidden secrets appeared all at once. Or, maybe I should have seen them coming. Anyway, a good read.
